11/19/13: FORT LAUDERDALE Hotel could be built directly behind the Casablanca Cafe
November 19, 2013
A 76-year old house in Fort Lauderdale Beach could be replaced by a 13-story hotel if a developer is successful in a pitch to city commissioners.
The proposal to build the 61-room Vintro hotel on a quarter-acre parcel on Alhambra Street is scheduled to be voted on by Fort Lauderdale commissioners tomorrow, If approved, the project would be another example of the ongoing transformation of the beach from low-density buildings and 60-year-old hotels to modern and taller hotel structures. Vintro would be built directly behind the Casablanca Cafe. (3049 Alhambra St, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33304)
Vintro’s plans include a rooftop pool, penthouse restaurant and ground-floor bar, according to the attorney for the Miami-based company. It is also opening a Miami Beach Vintro in March and building another hotel in New York City.
The boutique hotel would replace a 1936 home currently listed on Fort Lauderdale’s historical survey. The house was the city’s first bed and breakfast. Former Maryland-based U.S. Senator Millard Tydings once lived there
