Miami Beach officials are considering replacing nearly 300 bus stops throughout the city with a new design.

All four of the new designs would offer benefits including more shade, improved seating, real-time bus info, and cell phone charging.

Italian design firm Pininfarina along with local firm Acai Associates prepared the proposal. The four design options are:

  • Deco-Repetition
  • Beach-Reflection
  • Eclectic-Vibes
  • Smart-translucency

Of the four, Miami Beach’s Finance and Citywide Projects Committee has chosen Eclectic-Vibes and Smart-translucency as the top two contenders.

Miami Beach commissioners are scheduled to discuss the proposal at a meeting January 17. Commissioners first started the design process for the new bus stops in December 2015.

The Design Review Board and Historic Preservation Board will also need to vote on the plans, and the Finance and Citywide Projects Committee will need to vote on the project cost once budgets for the two finalists are prepared.
