More high-rise roofs emerge as places to recreate and relax (The Real Deal)

August 19, 2017

The rooftops of high-rise buildings in South Florida are increasingly popular spots to put swimming pools, gyms and other facilities for recreation and relaxation.

For example, 1 Hotel & Homes in Miami Beach is an 18-story condo and hotel with an adults-only rooftop pool spanning 26,000 square feet. Loftin Place Apartments, a 259-unit property in downtown West Palm Beach, features a jogging path and tennis courts on its roof.

The roof of a commercial building at 444 Brickell Avenue in Miami has been converted from unused tennis courts to a soccer field complete with lighting, padded walls, and men’s and women’s locker rooms and showers, plus a concession area, patio and lounge. The rental soccer facility, called Brickell Soccer Roof Top, is available daily.

Multiple South Florida real estate developments will open with swimming pools and other amenities on their rooftops when construction is completed.

They include Paramount Miami Worldcenter, a 60-story residential tower in downtown Miami scheduled for completion in early 2019, and The Ritz-Carlton Residences in Miami Beach, expected to open at the end of the year. The rooftop features at the Ritz-Carlton development in Miami Beach will include an indoor-and-outdoor yoga studio.

Paramount Miami Worldcenter will have swimming pools on its rooftop, plus a dog park, children’s playground, jogging path and summer kitchen with a barbecue area. Paramount residents also will have access to rooftop amenities at nearby structures, including a soccer field atop an office building, a pool deck on a retail building and tennis courts on Paramount’s parking garage.

Paramount also will have 1,200-square-foot rooftop observatory with 12-foot-high floor-to-ceiling windows and a telescope for star-gazing

In Broward County, the 44-story Hyde Beach House in Hollywood, expected to open next year, will have a rooftop pool deck with seating and fire pits. A separate elevated deck overlooking the Intracoastal Waterway, called the Sports Club, will have tennis and basketball courts.

An eighth-floor rooftop at Gale Residences Fort Lauderdale Beach will feature a pool, cabanas and a lounge. The construction of Gale Residences is expected to conclude in early 2018. [Sun-Sentinel]Mike Seemuth
